Walter Wilkins Walter Lee Wilkins, 95, of Adamsville, died Monday, June 11. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of the late William Robert Wilkins and Roma Elizabeth Hughes Wilkins Jarrett. He was united in marriage to the late Inez Irene Hughes who preceded him in death. Mr. Wilkins worked in construction work. He was inducted into The United States Marine Corps. He served during the Second World War from 1943 to 1946. He was honorably discharged on June 13, 1946, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Some of his assignments included the Marshall Islands, Guam, Okinawa, and Yokohama, Japan in the Pacific Theater of Operations. After the war, Walter farmed from 1947 to 1953. In 1953, he moved to Paducah, Ky. where he worked as the material management coordinator for the atomic energy plant run by Carbide Corporation of Paducah. He retired on August 30, 1968. On May 19, 1983, Walter moved from Paducah to Adamsville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Adamsville and a Shriner. Services were held onWednesday, June 13, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Steven Callicoat officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah. Walter is survived by a host of relatives. He was also preceded in death by five brothers. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 East Main Street, Adamsville, TN 38310.
