Walter Skelton Services for Walter Skelton were held on Sunday, July 8, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro, with Gary Hodum and Gene Kelly officiating. Burial followed in McGlamery Cemetery, Collinwood, with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of the arrangements. Huston Walter Skelton departed this life onThursday, July 5, at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tenn., at the age of 81 years, 4 months, 14 days. He was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Wayne County, the son of the late Arthur Clark and Nettie Carroll Skelton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Skelton was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Marie Overton Skelton on Jan. 10, 1988; sister, Peggy Garrison; brothers, Franklin, Eddie, Mac Arthur, Willie and Hershel Skelton; step son, Barry Rich. He was a self-employed carpenter but he was best known for his homemade sausage. He served his country in the United States Marines. He is survived by his wife, Joyce M. Horton Skelton of Waynesboro; son, Ricky Skelton and wife Ann of Waynesboro; daughter, Marilyn Welch and husband Donnie of Adamsville; step sons, James Rich and Troy Rich; step daughters; Jamie Reeves and husband Johnny, Joan Thompson and husband Arlie, Joy Sloan and husband Bill; grandchildren, Shannon Skelton, Brandon Skelton, Cassie Welch; step grandchildren; Christie, Jonathan and Brandon Reeves, Tina Creecy, Ashley Thompson, Shannon and Brandon Rich, Steven Rich and Amanda Stults; great-grandchildren, Carley, Cooper and Naomi Skelton; step great-grandchildren, Courtney, Casey, Lem, J.T., Sarah, Christian, Landon, Logan, Lucas, Josiah, Caitlyn and Summer; brothers, Paul Skelton of Waynesboro, Edgar Skelton of Detroit, Mich.; sisters, Beulah (Skelton) Mathis, Lydia (Skelton) Clayton, Shirley (Skelton) Luker, Margaret (Skelton) Carroll, Roberta (Skelton) Rochelle, all of Waynesboro.
