Virginia Holmes, 86, of Savannah, died Thursday, Jan. 30, at Lexington Manor Nursing Home in Lexington. She was born in Fayette County, the daughter of the late Hoyette Lee and Liza Viola Markle Taylor. She was united in marriage to Edgar Woodrow Holmes, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Holmes worked for Savannah Manufacturing as a sewing machine operator and supervisor. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah.

She is survived by four daughters, Pat Gray of Calhoun City, Miss., Gail Harvey of Lexington, Debi Bearden of Huron, and Sandie McGarrity of Chesapeake, Va.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Edward Taylor of Memphis, Ruby Callahan of Holly Springs, Miss., Joyce Atkeison of Somerville and Connie Taylor of Mesa, Ariz.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Thelma Dennie, James Taylor and J. T. Taylor and one brother-in-law, Ralph Atkeison and one great-grandchild, Zayne Taylor.

Services were held Feb. 1 in Savannah with John Ed Watkins officiating. Burial followed at Mount Hermon Cemetery in Hardin County.
