Vernal Paulk departed this life on Monday, Oct. 7, at the age of 89 years, 8 months, 6 days. She was born in Wayne County, on Feb. 1, 1924, the daughter of the late Laurel and Mirl Scott Daniels. On April 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Newton Paulk, who preceded her in death on July 7, 2013.
Mrs. Paulk was a member of Southside Baptist Church and had been employed with Brown Shoe Company and Angelica.
She was a very loving and kind person, and would give you anything she had. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed painting and crossstitching at the Senior Citizens Center.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Henry and Carolyn Wilkerson of Savannah, and Wanda Berchem of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Melissa Brewer of Selmer, Tenn., Michelle Cummings of Savannah, Jenny Cooper of Southampton, N.J., Tina Hudson of Texas, Megan Mitchell and Mandy Smith both of South Carolina; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eloise Ward of Savannah, Tennessee and Bonnie Sherrill of Mississippi; brother, Roy Daniels of Savannah.
In addition to her parents and husband, Newton Paulk of 67 years, she was preceded in death by brothers, Jobie Daniels, Eulus Daniels, and J.L. Daniels; sister, Cleo Beckham.
Services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Benny Taylor officiating. Burial followed at the Memory Gardens in Savannah.
