Velma (Pete) Haynes
Velma Lee (Pete) Harville White Haynes departed this life on Sunday, June 2, at the age of 91 years, 6 months, 28 days.
She was born in Hardin County, on Nov. 5, 1921, the daughter of the late James Carl and Annie Murphy Harville. On Aug. 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Willie D. White, who preceded her in death on April 20, 1963. She was united in marriage to her second husband, Elvin (Britches) Haynes on July 31, 1968. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1993.
Mrs. Haynes was a homemaker. She lived her life hanging out in the log woods and farming with her husband, Britches.
She is survived by a son, Johnny Lee White and wife Louise of Savannah; daughters, Donnie Shaw Burrow and Zella Ann Balentine, both of Savannah; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Otis Harville of Savannah; four sisters, Francis Harmon, Bobbie Alleva, Linda Reed and Connie Steward, all of Savannah.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by son, Tommy Jack White; daughter, Willie Mae White; son-in-law, Webb Shaw; brothers, Harvey (Bud) Harville and R.D. Harville; sisters, Elene Franks, Pauline Stricklin and Letha Harville.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 6, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
