Thurmond Burkhead

Franklin "Thurmond" Burkhead, 69, of Savannah, died Friday, May 4.

He was born in Montezuma, Tenn., the son of the late Ambrose Franklin and Virginia Reba Thurmond Burkhead. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Louise Baker, who survives.

Mr. Burkhead had lived in Downers Grove, Ill. and was a concrete finisher for Pritchard’s Concrete; he had also worked for John Flick Concrete.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah.

In addition to his wife, Rosemary, he is survived by his children, Dennis Treiber of Jacksonville, Fla., Norma Heatherly of Cape Coral, Fla., Stephen Treiber of Las Vegas, N.M., Kathleen Moss of Downers Grove, Ill., Kurt Treiber of Jacksonville, Fla., Thurmond DeWayne Burkhead of Ohio, Bobby J. Burkhead of Savannah, Allen (Doug) Hiatt of Downers Grove, Ill., Lisa A. Burkhead of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lauretta Lynn Grammer of Downers Grove, Ill.; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Nell King of Bolivar, Tenn., Mary Kay Hart of Lexington, Tenn., Martha Burkhead of Louisiana, and Darlene Roupp of Lexington, Tenn.; three brothers, Ronnie Burkhead of Finger, Tenn., Michael Burkhead of Illinois, and Billy Burkhead of Savannah.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carlos Ray, James Albert, and Johnny Lynn Burkhead.
