Thelma Lee Cummings Doyle (6-19-18)

Posted

Thelma Lee Cummings was born in Hardin County on June 30, 1929, the daughter of the late James Lawson and Mary Blanch Adams Cummings.  In 1946 she married Carl Farris Doyle; they were married for over 40 years before his death on June 6, 1987.

Thelma lived in Hardin County her entire life, residing mostly in the Olive Hill community before moving to Savannah seven years ago.  She was a country girl through and through, always raising huge gardens with her husband.  Her thumb was as green as they came and she could grow just about anything, even managing to root rose cuttings to produce the prettiest flowers. Home was truly where her heart was and she enjoyed simply spending time there, although Sundays often found her attending church at Shady Grove Freewill Baptist or the Baptist church at Olive Hill. Thelma was a beautiful woman but, more importantly, she was kind and loving.

Thelma Lee Cummings Doyle departed this life on Tuesday, June 19, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 20 days.

She leaves her son Carl Farris Doyle Jr. of Savannah; and her daughter Janet Smith, also of Savannah and the Walkertown community; as well as 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter Joan Chandler; her sister Blanch Burgess; and her two brothers, J.L. Cummings and Douglas Cummings.

Private services were held.
