Shed Young

Shed D. Young, 84, of Savannah, died Thursday, July 8.

He was born in Mathiston, Miss., the son of the late Charles Henry and Virginia Levonni Breland Young.

Mr. Young worked as a district conservationist with the United States Department of Agriculture for approximately 30 years. He had served in the Coast Guard during World War II and participated in the initial Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Services were held on Sunday, July 11, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Eric Jones officiating. Burial was in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.

He is survived by two sons, Mike D. and Ronald Young, both of Savannah; two grandchildren; a great granddaughter; three sisters, Virginia Dowdy, Oreeve Stephenson and Helen Griffin, all of Mississippi.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Aillene Thompson Young; three brothers, Fred, Henry and Edmond Young; four sisters, Joy Harpole, Elaine Oswalt, Mavis Graves and Jimmie Blaine.
