Sam Pickens Jr., 74, of Savannah, died Saturday, March 15, at Hardin Medical and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late Sam and Mackie Wilkerson Pickens.

He was employed by Brown Shoe Company in Savannah and later retired with Lloyd Parrish Logging Company.

He is survived by a son, Roger Pickens of Savannah; two daughters, Darlene White Mancell of Savannah and Sherry Sweat of Stantonville; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild and a sister, Onedia Franks of Savannah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Pickens and a sister, Katherine Pickens.

Services were held Tuesday, March 18, in Savannah with Benny Taylor officiating. Burial followed at Wilkerson Cemetery in Hardin County.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
