Ruth Marie Alexander of Waynesboro passed away Friday, Aug. 29, at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Waynesboro at the age of 85 years. She was born Oct. 12, 1928.
Born in Hardin County, she was the daughter of Arvil and Lola Alexander. Ms. Alexander’s working career included cotton farming in Missouri for many years followed by employment with Brown Shoe Company in Missouri and then Savannah from which she retired in 1992. Ms. Alexander was of Baptist faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Wade Grinder and husband Gailand of Waynesboro; grandchild, Amelia Grinder Kuehn and husband Jeff of Waynesboro and great-grandchildren Victor, Kade and Ramsey Kuehn; sisters, Lawanda Carroll and husband Malcolm of Savannah, Judith Beckham and husband Finley of Savannah, Ellen Neff of Memphis, Clo Simon of St. Louis; brothers, Ray Alexander of Memphis, Keeton Alexander of Tucson, Ariz., and Douglas Alexander of Savannah.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Lou Howe and Linda Averett, as well as brothers, Danny Alexander, Roy Alexander and Barney Alexander.
Services were Monday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro with Camryn Eaton officiating. Burial followed in Waynesboro Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Dr. Buzz Alexander, Kenneth Alexander, Corey Beckham, Finley Beckham, Malcolm Carroll, Shane Beckham and Jamie Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Nolan Grinder, Terry Grinder and Carl Skelton.
