Russell Coats

Russell Coats was born in McNairy County, on April 14, 1927, the son of the late Thomas Reed and Gracie Pearl Younger Coats.

Mr. Coats was united in marriage for 54 years to Jeana Sue Fletcher, who preceded her husband in death on Feb. 27, 2003.

Mr. Coats was a facilities manager for 30 years for F. Silverman & Sons. He was a United States Navy Veteran. Mr. Coats was a member of First United Methodist Church in Adamsville, member of Masons in Clifton, and the Civitan Club in Clifton. Mr. Coats was a natural born mechanic, he built mechanical Christmas ornaments. He enjoyed fishing and loved to be outdoors.

Mr. Coats departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 26 days.

He is survived by one daughter, Sharon Coats of Savannah; and one son, Ron Coats and his wife Kay of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; one grandchild, John Christopher Coats and one great-grandchild, Madison Leigh Coats; two sisters, Gail Smith of Germantown, Tenn. and Hazel Palmer of Adamsville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Coats and Marie Easley; and three brothers, Dorris, Henry and Ernest Coats.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Adamsville with Rev. Russell N. Gallimore and Dr. Toni Watson officiating.
