Roscoe Turnbo

Roscoe Turnbo, 93, Saltillo, of Saltillo, died Monday, Dec. 27.

He was born in Perry County, Tenn., the son of the late Hugh and Ada Depriest Turnbo. He was united in marriage to Virginia Lee Jones, who survives.

Mr. Turnbo was self-employed as a farmer. He won Tennessee Farmer of the Year in 1961 and had also worked for the Hardin County Department of Education as a school bus driver. He was a member of the Saltillo First Baptist Church, Free Masons, and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Services were held on Thursday, Dec. 30, at Saltillo First Baptist Church with Mark Burton, Lloyd Blankenship, Carl McNeal officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery at Saltillo.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by three sons, James Glenn Turnbow of Gallatin, Tenn., Austin J. Turnbow of Jackson, Tenn. and Rudolph Turnbow of Saltillo; two daughters, Charlotte Jean Turnbow Finley of Saltillo and Sheila Dean Turnbow Pollock of Huron, Tenn.; two brothers, Leland Turnbo of Sardis and Homer Turnbo of Savannah; a sister, Ruby Turnbo Sollis of Sardis; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Leon "Pete" Turnbow; three brothers, Harl Turnbo, Richard Turnbo, and Clyde Turnbo; three sisters, Nellie Culp, Lillian McGlotherin, and Altie Cowen; two grandchildren.
