Robert Earl Jones was born in Savannah on March 26, 1933, the son of Robert and Dona Hopper Jones, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 9, 1959, he was united in marriage to Robbie Ann Austin, who survives.
Before Mr. Jones’ retirement, he was employed with the Hardin County Board of Education as a bus driver and custodian; and also worked as a security guard for Aqua Glass Corporation. He was a member of Nixon First Pentecostal Church. Mr. Jones loved to collect “junk treasures” and also loved to go camping and fishing.
Mr. Jones departed this life on June 15, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 7 days.
In addition to his wife, Robbie Jones of Savannah, he is survived by three daughters, Kay Newman and husband Steve, Tammy
Abels and husband Donald, Misty Haggard and husband Jeremy, all of Savannah; six grandchildren, Aaron and Erica McGriff,
Donald Steele Abels, Katie Terry, Mia and Mallory Haggard; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Waylan, Abby and Makayla McGriff; two brothers, Bobby Jones and Billy Jones and four sisters, Ruby DeShazier, Betty Jo Harris, Dorothy Frazier, and Dovie Franks, all of Savannah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Krista LeAnn Terry; one sister, Gladys Tidwell
and four brothers, Jimmy Jones, James Jones, Kenneth Jones Obituaries and Elmer Lee Jones.
Services were held on Wednesday, June 18, at 1 p.m., at Nixon First Pentecostal Church in Savannah with John Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Savannah.
