Current Hardin County School Board Member Mike Pitts died on Thursday, Sept. 30, at the age of 52 years, 3 months, 29 days. Pitts was also park manager at Pickwick Landing State Park with the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. He was also a former chairman of the Hardin County Board of Education, and had been an active member on the board for 16 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Counce. Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 3 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Counce with Dr. Bill Darnell officiating. Burial was in the White Sulphur Cemetery at Pickwick Dam. He was born in Lansing, Mich., on June 1, 1958, the son of Charles and Jean Pitts. Mr. Pitts is survived by his wife, Judy Pitts of Savannah; five children, Shawn Mutters, Michael Pitts, Chelsea Pitts, Michael Mutters and Ashley Pitts, all of Savannah; parents, Charles and Jean Pitts of Tiptonville, Tenn.; a brother, Christopher Bradley Pitts and wife Brandy of Ft. Bragg, N.C.
