Mattie Elizabeth Powell Warrington, of Savannah, was born in Perry County, Tennessee, on June 19, 1919, the daughter of the late Amos Jack and Nancy Ann Hickerson Powell. On Jan. 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Paul Edward Warrington, who preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2004.
Mrs. Warrington departed this life on Wednesday, April 11, at the age of 98 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Mrs. Warrington attended Clifton Church of Christ. For 20 years, she worked as a clerk at Clifton 5 and 10. In her lifetime, she lived in Perry County, McNairy County, Wayne County and Hardin County, Tennessee. Mrs. Warrington loved cooking and quilting. She is remembered as a great mother that was a good homemaker and a Christian lady. She was always thinking of others.
Mrs. Warrington is survived by her children, Paul Edward Warrington Jr., Nancy Kay Northcutt and James Powell Warrington, all of Savannah and Joe Warrington of Clifton; grandchildren, Christie Northcutt Pettit, Meredith Warrington, Michael Jason Warrington, Jonathan Richard Warrington and James Hardin Warrington; and great-grandchildren, Kari Lee Warrington, Jake Hardin Warrington, Jaden Thomas Warrington and Jessie James Warrington.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Warrington was preceded in death by her siblings, Allean Powell McCutcheon, Malcom Daryl Powell, Coy Lee Powell, Bonnie Earl Powell McCutcheon and Hollis Everett Powell.
Memorial donations can be made to Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Clifton Church of Christ, East End Methodist Church, or Savannah Church of Christ.
Services were held on Thursday, April 12, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Tracy Love officiating. Burial followed in Clifton Cemetery at Clifton.
