Mary McCasland was born March 6, 1919, the daughter of the late Lewis and Laura Downing White. On Dec. 23, 1939, she was united in marriage to John Cecil McCasland, who preceded her in death July 10, 1962.
Mrs. McCasland was born and raised in Olive Hill, where she attended Shady Grove School. She lived in Virginia for a short time during World War II while her husband served in the Navy. The rest of her life, she lived in Hardin County and was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ in Savannah.
She was a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved cooking big family meals. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothes, quilts and crafts. She also loved baby-sitting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She departed this life Monday, Feb. 3, at Hardin Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Savannah, at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 28 days.
She is survived by her children, Robert McCasland and Jane McCasland Jerrolds, both of Savannah; grandchildren, Barry Jerrolds, Paige McCasland Godwin, Brian Jerrolds and Kevin McCasland; great-grandchildren, Lindsey McCasland, Tyler Jerrolds, Abby Jerrolds, Joshua Jerrolds, Grant Godwin, Noah Godwin, Kolby McCasland and Kenli McCasland.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ethel White Vickery, Ruby White Vickery and brothers, Dick White, Noel White and Harvey White; and son-in-law, Ted Jerrolds.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Savannah with Howard Rogers officiating. Burial followed at Piney Grove Cemetery in Savannah.
