Marvin Earl McCasland departed this life on Monday, Oct. 28, at the age of 74 years, 15 days. He was born in Hardin County, on Oct. 13, 1939, the son of the late Earl Sylvester and Etta Thacker McCasland. On December 1, 1961, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Woolcocks, who survives.
Marvin was a welder for Pittman Construction Company in Conyers, Ga. He was a member of the Boiler Maker-Blacksmith Local 455 in Muscle Shoals, Ala. and Mt. View Church of Christ in Savannah. Marvin was a veteran of the United States Marine
Corp. He was very proud to say he was one of “The Few, the Proud, a Marine.”
Marvin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine McCasland of Savannah; sons, Joseph Allen McCasland and wife Patty of San Antonio, Texas, and Douglas Earl McCasland and wife Tammy of Savannah; daughter, Laura Kaye Slate and husband Troy of Canton, Ga; grandchildren, Lucas McCasland, Tyler Slate, Kyle Slate, Julian McCasland, Felecia Garrard, Kristen Brown, and Cassidy Brown and great-grandchildren, Scarlett Rood and Jaxon Bowling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Morgan McCasland and daughter-in-law, Cynthia McCasland.
Services were held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Joe Paul Bryant and Tracy Love officiating. Burial followed at Mt. View Cemetery in Hardin County.
