Martha Coleman was born on July 12, 1932, the daughter of the late Joseph Henry Schaeffer Sr. and Martha Sue Randolph Schaeffer. On Sept. 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to Donald Deming Coleman Sr., who survives. Martha departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 8 days.
Martha was a member of the Colonial Danes and Daughters of the American Revolution, both in Memphis. Martha attended The Carpenter Shop in Savannah. She enjoyed going to Pickwick Lake, gardening, reading and walking.
In addition to her husband, Martha is survived by her son, Donald Deming Coleman Jr. of Counce; daughter, Virginia Sue Coleman Smith and husband Basil Jr. of Dyersburg; sisters, Dorothy Vawter of Mobile, Alabama and Bettye Carasso of Olive Branch, Mississippi; brother, Milton Turner Schaeffer of Germantown, Tennessee; grandchildren, Rebecca Randolph Cobo, Eric Smith and Joseph Schaeffer; and eight great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her daughter, DeLayne Duke Coleman; brothers, Joe Schaeffer Jr.,  Gene Schaeffer and Duke Schaeffer; and a sister, Kittye MacNeille.
Services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m., at Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah with Eric Smith officiating. Burial followed in White Sulphur Cemetery  at Pickwick Dam.
