Mae Wood O’Neal Mae Wood O’Neal was born in Hardin County, on March 29, 1926, the daughter of the late William and Lena Howard. Mrs. O’Neal was a lifelong Hardin Countian. She had worked for Brown Shoe Company for 30 years and was a member of Pyburn Union Church. She loved her family and grandchildren and enjoyed sewing, listening to music, cooking, gardening and flowers. Mrs. O’Neal departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, 16 days. She is survived by a son, Dennis Wood and his wife Linda of Savannah; two grandchildren, Jason Wood and Justin Wood; great-grandchild, Braxton Lane Wood; a brother, H.K. (Boots) Howard of Savannah; a sister, Mary Gale Harmon of Savannah. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Wood on Dec. 28, 1984, her second husband, Harold O’Neal on May 25, 2007; four brothers, Roosevelt, John, Raymond and Edd Howard; a sister, Zilphia Messner; half-brother, Leonard Howard; half-sisters, Rhoda White and Maggie Weaver. Services were held on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m., at Pyburn Union Church in Savannah with Harry Nolen and Tony Polk officiating. Burial followed in the Pyburn Cemetery at Savannah.
