Mable Franks

Mable Ruth Smith Franks, 69, of Savannah, died Monday, Oct. 17, in Savannah.

She was born in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Calvin Lee and Bessie Mae Hudson Smith. She was united in marriage to Freeman Franks, who survives.

Mrs. Franks was a homemaker. She was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church.

Services were held on Friday, Oct. 21, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Mike Howard officiating. Burial followed in the Old Union Cemetery at Adamsville.

In addition to her husband Freeman of Savannah, she is survived by two daughters, Dolly Jayne Shelby and Virginia Lee Qualls, both of Savannah; four sons, Freeman Eugene (Pokey) Franks, Tracy Lynn Franks, Jon Thomas Franks and Michael Calvin Franks, all of Savannah; one step-daughter, Becky Franks of Washington, D.C.; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Paul (Jim) Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., and Allen Lee Smith of Savannah; two sisters, Margaret Faye James of Perry County, Tenn. and Ruby Gene McCann of Savannah.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Marie Franks Todd; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
