Larry J. Harrell, of Savannah, was born on Oct. 14, 1940, in Hardeman County, Tennessee, the son of the late Gale Johnson and Hazel Bernice Maroney Harrell.

Mr. Harrell honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and retired having earned the title of Major. After his time in the Air Force, he worked as an engineer for Boeing until his retirement in 1995. Larry was very proud of the community he lived in and would do anything to support any and all activities. He was Commander of VFW Post 2949, a life member of DAV, and a member of Pickwick Raise the Flag, Hardin County Country Christmas, Savannah Rotary, River Bend Home Association, and the Darryl Worley Foundation. He was also on the original steering committee for the National Cemetery at Parker’s Crossroads.

Larry J. Harrell departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 26, in Savannah, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 12 days.

Larry is survived by his sister, Beverly Russell of Bolivar; nieces, Diana Conner, Amy McCall and husband Sheldon, and Michael Ann Russell; great nieces and nephews, Amanda Crews, Maribeth Harris, Megan Ryan, Shelby McCall, Danielle Marcotte, Jonathan McCall, and Linda Conner; and great-great niece and nephew, Connor Crews and Madison Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-niece, Ashley Ryan.

Services were held on Sunday, Dec. 30, at 7 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Col. Jerry Key, U.S. Air Force Ret. and Lanny Sartor officiating. Services Monday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel, Bolivar,  with Matt Emerson and Lanny Sartor officiating. Burial followed at Bolivar Memorial Cemetery in Bolivar, Tennessee.
