Kate Jones Martin was born on June 4, 1911, in Sardis, Tenn., the daughter of the late E. B. and Emma Clayton Jones. On June 19, 1930, she was united in marriage to William Clyde Martin, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1968.

As well as living in Sardis, Tenn., Mrs. Martin also lived in Memphis and in Oklahoma. She was a homemaker her entire life and loved taking care of her family. She started cooking at a young age due to the death of her father and mother and had to farm to support her family. She loved gardening, quilting and spending time with her friends at the Senior Citizens Center. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed getting phone calls from various family members. She was a member of the Sardis Church of Christ and the last 10 years of her life was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Sardis Senior Citizens.

She departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, at the age of 102 years, 5 months and 2 days.

She is survived by a daughter, Sue Johnson and her husband, Brodie, of Savannah; a special sister-in-law, Alene Weatherington, of Milledgeville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Stephen Johnson and his wife, Roxann and Sarah Shirley, and her  husband, Ray, all of Savannah and four great-grandchildren, Molly Kate Shirley, Macy Elizabeth Shirley, Mia Caroline Shirley and Emma Ann Johnson.

In addition to her husband, William Clyde and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, John Larry Martin and siblings, Blanche Stanfill, Welch Jones, Carl Jones, and Grace Jones.

Services were held on Friday, Nov. 8, at Sardis Church of Christ in Sardis, Tenn. with Gilbert Gough officiating. Burial followed at Sardis Cemetery in Sardis, Tenn.
