Joseph Woodrow Sutton, age 78, of Savannah, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

He was born in Leoma, Tennessee and a native of Auburndale, Florida, retired from CSX Railroad, a cattleman, and a member of Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Savannah. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 102 in Savannah. Mr. Sutton served his country honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard for 33 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Neoma Robbins Sutton; his wife, Joyce Herman Sutton; and two brothers, Lawrence Sutton and Bill Sutton.

He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Rodriguez and husband Kevin of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; one son, Lonny “Sport” Sutton of Savannah; five grandchildren, Gary Rodriguez and Kayci Crane, both of Hixson, Tennessee, Jessica Paul of Bonifay, Florida, Kaley Sutton and Christopher Sutton, both of Auburndale, Florida; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Funeral services were conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, with Jason Estes officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Lawrence County, Tennessee, with full military honors. The family suggests memorials be made to Teen Challenge, 1450 Florence Road, Savannah, Tenn. 38372.
