James Edgar "Jim" "Banty" Lewis, 77, was born July 1, 1934, in Hardin County. He died April 12, in Knoxville.

He was retired from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, following 29 years of service and was employed as a court security officer at the U.S. Marshall’s office in Knoxville.

A funeral service was held in Knoxville on April 14, officiated by Condridge Holloway. A military funeral was held at Munford Funeral Home in Millington, Tenn. on April 17. Interment was at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, on April 18. He was taken to the cemetery by a motorcade that was escorted by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Delia Lewis; and three sisters, Willie Mae, Wanda Lee and Inez.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lewis of Knoxville; a sister, Sandra Bishop; a nephew, Tommy Greathouse (Cindy); daughter, Meghan, all of Duluth, Ga.; a niece, Tamela Greene (Terrence), Serena and Austin of New York; and cousins, Billy Joe and Jennie Lewis, Belinda Tilley (Philip), Billy Wayne, Shawn (Amanda), and Timothy Kyle, Rex Lewis (Jennifer), James Carroll, Bethany, Heather and William, Tim Lewis (Tammy), Jessica (Michael), and JoJo, Gracie Denton, Lisa, Junior, Vickie, Glenda, Daryl, Ron and Angie, all of Savannah, and Wanda Carraway, Teresa and Bubba of Houston, Texas.
