James Edward Thompson Sr., 80, of Savannah, died on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late John Albert and Cleo Northcutt Thompson. He was united in marriage to Margaret Belle Franks, who survives.
Mr. Thompson worked for 44 years for Crounse Corporation as a towboat captain. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, Turkey Creek Baptist Church, and a 32nd Degree Mason.
In addition to his wife, Margaret Thompson of Savannah, he is survived by his children, Janet Copeland of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, Deborah Young of Savannah, Patricia Littlejohn of Iuka, Mississippi and James Edward Thompson Jr. of Michie; one sister, Sharon Webb Clearman of Atoka, Tennessee; two brothers, Johnny Thompson of Adamsville and Louis Wayne Thompson of Savannah; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step randchildren and six step reat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild; two sisters, Freeda Foster and Carolyn Fowler; and one brother, Judgy Thompson.
Services were held on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Wade Holbrook officiating. Burial followed in Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
