James "Slim" Williams (1-30-14) service 2-2-14

James E. “Slim” Williams departed this life Thursday, Jan. 30, at the age of 79 years, 3 months, 4 days. He was born in Webster County, Miss., on Oct. 26, 1934, the son of the late Thomas Edward and Earlene Walker Williams. On March 21, 1981, he was united in marriage to Gayle Jeter, who survives.

James was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed deer hunting, sports, the outdoors, farming and loved his family. He had worked for Columbia Gulf for 30 years and the Hardin County Road Superintendent for four years. He was a member of Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge and was a pro-baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals.

James is survived by his wife, Gayle Jeter Williams of Savannah; daughters, Amy Williams Murphy of Florence, Ala., Rebecca Lewis and husband Rick of Corinth, Miss., and Lisa Williams of Savannah; sons, Steve Williams and wife BJ of Corinth, Miss., Jeff Blount, Vance Blount, and Chad Blount all of Savannah and grandchildren, Jeremy, Brittney, Acey, Taylor, Mallory, Connor, Aleck, Clatie, and Ben.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elouise “Polly” Howard; and brothers, Clinton Eugene “Bo” Williams and Thomas Charles Williams.

Services were held Feb. 2, in Savannah with Duwayne Pounds officiating.
