Hoover Gibbs

Herbert Hoover Gibbs, 80, of Morris Chapel, died Sunday, Jan. 3.

He was born in Morris Chapel, the son of the late Finley Edgar "Tony" and Harue Moffett Gibbs. He was united in marriage to Geneva Ernestine Browder, who survives.

Mr. Gibbs had worked for Brown Shoe and as a truck driver for Aqua Glass before retiring.

Services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Gene Hanna officiating. Burial was in the Crump Cemetery at Crump.

In addition to his wife, Geneva, he is survived by two sons, David Gene of Adamsville and Timothy Andrew Gibbs of Crump; a daughter, Deborah Shutt of Crump; seven brothers, Kenny of Savannah, Donnie of Selmer, Joe, Bobby, Ray, Fay and Billy Gibbs, all of Adamsville; a sister, Martha Davey of Adamsville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Gibbs Barham; two brothers, W.M. and John Elmer Gibbs; three sisters, Charlene Powell, Louise Watson and Margaret Scott.
