Hershel Shands, 82, died Monday, Dec. 16. He was born the son of the late William Hermon and Caroline Barrier Shands. He was united in marriage to Virginia Nell Brown, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Shands was employed by Rogers Group Quarry and River Heights Lumber Company.
He is survived by four daughters, Wanda G. Shands, Glenda F. Shands Ward and Betty L. Shands Linville, all of Savannah, and Mary L. Shands of Bolivar; six grandchildren; and a niece, Ann Shands Cossey.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Madeline Shands; a brother, Henry Edward Shands; three half-sisters, Beulah Shands Fox, Ethal Hendon and Lula Gobbell; and a half-brother, Coleman Shands.
Services were held on Thursday, Dec. 19, in Savannah with David Highland, Jimmy McGee, and Keaton Franks officiating. Burial followed at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Hardin County.
