Everett Kinder

Everett "Ken" Kinder, 80, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, formerly of Hardin County, died Saturday, May 29, at his residence.

He was born at Mount Ayr, Iowa, son of the late Emery Leonard "E.L." and Bessie Athena Newman Kinder. He was united in marriage to Mary S. Hurt, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Kinder served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He and his wife lived at Pickwick for several years while Everett worked at Pickwick Landing State Park as manager of the marina and later at the Hardin County Sherriff’s Department for eight years. He was a member of Mount Ayr Christian Church and the Methodist Church. He received his 50 year certificate from Faith Lodge 179 of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association for more than 50 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police for more than 30 years.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 1, at Rose Hill Cemetery, at Mount Ayr, Iowa. Arrangements by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Homes, Mount Ayr, Iowa.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harry L. Kinder; and sisters, Kathleen Davis and Athena Strange.

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Duncan of Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
