Eugene “Gene” Dennis Alvin Jr., age 77, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, at his residence.

He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 3, 1941 and was the son of the late Eugene Dennis Alvin Sr. and the late Helen Herring Alvin.

He served in the United States Marine Corps and was in the Collinwood American Legion Post 254, serving as the historian for several years.  He was a pilot and enjoyed building airplane models and was quite an artist.  He liked to study the stock market and investments.  He was a poet and a writer.  Better known as “Cheffy” by his family, Gene’s favorite stress reliever was cooking.  He studied culinary arts in California.

Gene is survived by his wife: Jan Burriss Alvin; stepchildren, Michele Molina (Laura Weigand), Angela Garcia and Tanya Davey; step grandchildren, Aubrie Garcia and Andrew Garcia; niece, Jeannie Alvin; and nephews, Tim Morgan and Don Morgan.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Wright Morgan.
