Elsie “Maw” Franks was born in Hardin County on Oct. 17, 1922, the daughter of the late George Jackson and Sarah Emiline Benson Bevis.
On April 13, 1945, she was united in marriage to Elbert Warren Franks, who preceded his wife in death on Sept. 3, 1991.
Mrs. Franks was a homemaker and was a member of White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She loved gardening, flowers, sewing and cooking. She enjoyed watching animal shows and watching channel 18, which was her church family when she was unable to go to church.
“Maw” as she was known by everyone departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 12, in Savannah, at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 25 days.
She is survived by her children, Patricia McGee of Savannah, Deanna Reynolds of Florence, Alabama, Ironn Franks of Savannah, Rickey Franks of Savannah, Bruce Franks of Savannah, and Lisa Price of Savannah; 11 grandchildren, Marty McGee, Shane McGee, Jeremy McGee, Jody Reynolds, Amenda Webb, Andy Franks, Sara Marshall, Elliott Franks, Jason Young, Jessica Price and Cody Price; 14 great-grandchildren, Macyn McGee, Sid McGee, Hunter Terry, Ashley Laginestra, Arianna Reynolds, Kaitlyn Webb, Shelby Webb, Tyler Franks, Gavin Franks, Reece Marshall, Addy Marshall, Abram Franks, Laney Franks and Maggie Young; three sisters, Effie Stricklin, Molly Word and Hazel Holloway; and two brothers, Earnest Bevis and Gene Bevis.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one infant son, Gary Franks; one great-grandchild, Jacob Franks; two brothers, Clarence Bevis and Walter Bevis; and two sisters, Delsie Holcombe and Deloise Bevis.
Services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Jimmy McGee and Keith Holloway officiating. Burial followed in White’s Creek Cemetery at Savannah.
