Delmas McKay Blount, 94, of Savannah, died on Monday, Aug. 27.

He was born in Hardin County, son of the late Arthur Morris and Lura Falls Blount. He was united in marriage to Mildred Thrasher, who survives.

Mr. Blount served during World War II with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater. Following his return from service, he worked as a carpenter for many years, and later began to teach the next generation carpentry in the vocational department of Hardin County High School. Along with his wife, he was co-owner and operator of Savannah Greenhouse and Garden Center. He and his wife belonged to several Western square dancing clubs and danced at many state conventions.

In addition to his wife Mildred, he is survived by their three children, Mac Blount, Thalia Hinton and Barbara Blount; one grandson; brother, Ancil Blount; and sister, Geneva Rinks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Allie Whitaker; brothers, Carl, Maxwell, Morris, Glen, Douglas and Danny Blount.

Memorial donations may be made to Barnhill United Methodist Church, 9352 Hwy. 128, Savannah, Tenn. 38372.

Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Renee Martin officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Hermon Cemetery at Savannah.
