David Gibbs was born Sept. 5, 1953, in Savannah, the son of Geneva Ernestine Browder and the late Herbert Hoover Gibbs.
He was united in marriage to Cheryl Pickens on June 12, 1982.
In his younger years, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout through excelling in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills. He was very proud of his accomplishment.
Mr. Gibbs was a self-employed truck driver. He was a family man who enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team, and fishing with his family especially his grandbabies whom he loved dearly. He played golf, liked mowing his yard and loved Big Orange football. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Adamsville.
Mr. Gibbs departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 23, in Memphis, at the age of 62 years, 3 months, 18 days.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Gibbs of Adamsville; a daughter, Brook Allen and husband Brian of Martin, Tennessee; a son, Zach Gibbs and wife Krista of Adamsville; mother, Ernestine Gibbs of Crump; a sister, Debbie Gibbs Shutt of Crump; and a brother, Tim Gibbs of Crump.
In addition to his father, Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Gibbs Barham.
Services were held on Sunday, Dec. 27, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville with Bro. Phil Mitchell officiating. Burial followed in Crump Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer were in charge of arrangements, 731-645-3481.
