Daisy Young (7-15-12) service 7-17-12

Daisy Ruth Young, 78, of Savannah, died Sunday, July 15.

She was born in Florence, Ala., the daughter of Earnest and Lillie Bell Richardson Smith. She was united in marriage to Melvin Eugene Young, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Young had worked for Brown Shoe Company as a sewing machine operator until the plant closed in 1993. She loved to work in her garden, fish, sew and quilt.

Daisy is survived by her children, Rita June Thorne of Savannah, Martha Ann Byrd of Pulaski, Tenn., Angie Denise Martin, Steven Wayne Young, and Jackie Anita Young, all of Savannah; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sisters, Dorothy Watkins of Florence, Ala., Annie Lois Thigpen of Greenhill, Ala., and Gladys Thomas of Florence, Ala.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Dennis Ray Young; sister, Ruby Smith Nard; brothers, Hubert, Jake, Charlie, William, and Willard.

Services were held on Tuesday, July 17, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Carroll Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Roger’s Chapel Cemetery at Florence, Ala.
