Brownie Nichol Brownie Powers Nichol, 88, of Paducah, Ky., died Thursday, Oct. 4. She was born in Saltillo, daughter of the late Daniel Lee and Capitola McDougal Powers. Ms. Nichol was a military veteran of the U.S. Navy (WAVES: Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). She retired as the billing manager from Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky. She previously worked for Western Kentucky Regional Mental Health, and served on the Mental Retardation Board. She was also employed by Charter Hill Hospital. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Paducah, Ky. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Republican Party. Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 7, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Duwayne Pounds officiating. Burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery at Morris Chapel. Ms. Nichol is survived by two daughters, Jane Martin of Paducah, Ky. and Carol Rottgering of Calvert City, Ky.; two sons, William P. Nichol of Paducah, Ky. and H. Doug Nichol of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a sister, Ann Towery of Atlanta, Ga.; and two brothers, Joe of Knoxville and Jack Powers of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Julian S. Nichol Jr.; two brothers, Dan and Bob Powers; a sister, Mary Smithson; and one grandson.
