Billy Godwin

Billy Frye Godwin of Iuka, Miss., departed this life on Friday, Aug. 17, at the age of 86 years, 8 months, 20 days.

Mr. Godwin was born on Nov. 28, 1925, the son of the late Joseph J. and Cordelia Caldonia Love Godwin. On Nov. 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Dean Christian, who survives.

He had been employed with Grace Long Real Estate and retired from Reynolds Metals Company as an instrument mechanic. He was a member of the IBEW Local 558, Gospel Assembly Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Godwin enjoyed reading his Bible and pursuing a lifetime of learning, especially about geography and history. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, gardening, and tending his orchards. He especially loved entertaining his family with stories and playing games with his grandchildren.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his wife, Mary Dean Godwin of Iuka, Miss.; sons, Clark Godwin and wife Charlotte, Mark Godwin and wife Karen all of Iuka, Miss.; grandchildren, Bethany Godwin, Stephanie Godwin, Emily Godwin, Jonathan Godwin and Stephen Godwin; sister, Carolyn Crunk of Savannah; special caregiver, Carrie Burcham of Iuka, Miss.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Kate Guinn, Mary Walker, Mildred Gean, Evelyn Sue Godwin and Christine Spencer; brothers, Sam Godwin, Joe Godwin, Bob Godwin and Dan Godwin.

Services were held on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m., at Gospel Assembly Church in Iuka, Miss. with Rev. Zolon E. Zeh officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Iuka, Miss.
