Betty Joyce Wilkerson Casteel of Waynesboro was born May 19, 1948, in Savannah, the daughter of the late Dan and Viola Shuburte Wilkerson.
She departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation in Waynesboro, at the age of 67 years, 6 months, 23 days.
She was a member of the Methodist church and was associated with Reelfoot rural ministries. Although Waynesboro was her home, she previously had lived in Tiptonville, Tennessee, Texas, and Savannah.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Wayne Casteel of Savannah; two daughters, Terri Jane Pope of Waynesboro and Melissa Lee Casteel of Savannah; six grandchildren, Phillip Daniel Pope, Steven James Pope, Toby Dale Pickens, Dillon Lee Casteel, Kelsey Nicole Pickens, Bailey Casteel; and a great-grandchild, Bentley Neil Stephens; three sisters, Frances Ann Woods of Saulsbury, Tennessee, Mary Ellen Brison of Waynesboro and Patsy Gail Johnson of Savannah.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dougal and James Loyd Wilkerson.
Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Waynesboro with Bobby Pinckley officiating. Burial followed in Waynesboro Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Phillip Pope, Steven Pope, Toby Pickens, Dillon Casteel, Kenneth Johnson, and Jerry Casteel, and honorary pallbearer, Bentley Stephens.
