Bernice Dickey Bernice Dickey was born in Savannah, on Feb. 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Tom and Mae Harris Ables. On March 2, 1940, she was united in marriage to Samuel Vernon Dickey, who preceded his wife in death on Dec. 17, 1996. Mrs. Dickey retired after 22 years from Burnham Glove Factory in Michigan City, Ind. She was a member of Crossroads Union Church. Mrs. Dickey departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 21, in Savannah, at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 28 days. She is survived by one son, Tony R. Dickey and his wife Sharon of Brandon, Fla.; one daughter, Wilma Carolyn Tompach and her husband James of Savannah; eight grandchildren, Lynette Clouse, Douglas McDermott, Shannon Dickey, Gregory Dickey, Bradley Dickey, Tim Tompach, Nancy Heisler and Karen Tompach; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua Dickey, Abigail Clouse, Jack McDermott, Julia McDermott, Rayna Tompach, Riley Tompach, Ella Tompach, Haley Heisler and Logan Heisler; two great-great-grandchildren, Libby White and Adam White. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Willie Dickey and one sister, Burma Umphrey. Services were held on Friday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with J.P. Gillis officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery at Hardin County.
