Aulsie "Al" Rogers
Aulsie "Al" W. Rogers Jr., 79, of Athens, Tenn., died Monday night, Jan. 7, at his residence. He was a native of Reagan, Tenn., and was a son of the late Aulsie W. Sr. and Eula Segerson Rogers and was also preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Bailey.
He was a member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Meridian Sun Lodge 50 F&AM and the Chilhowee Rod and Gun Club.
Al was an avid bird hunter and engaged in skeet shooting.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University. He was an electrical engineer with TVA at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant for 20 years. He also was a quality assurance manager at Watts Bar unit one until his retirement. He also served at Brown’s Ferry Nuclear Plant.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He is survived by a special friend, Sue Monks of Athens, Tenn.; two nieces, Vickie Lynn Blount of Savannah, Wanda Sue Lewis of Marietta, Ga.; three great nieces and five great-great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted, 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Les Rust officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Carey Bishop, David Pickens, JR Griggs, Jim Parris, Jack Garner, Doug Spangler and Charlie Guinn.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Mars Hill Presbyterian Church, 205 N. Jackson Street, Athens, Tenn. 37303.
