Willie Howard Pigg, 65, of Menallen Township in Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 10, at Life Care Hospital in Monroeville, Pa.
He was born April 13, 1948, in Clifton, Tenn., the son of the late Willie E. and Myra Catherine Baker Pigg.
Willie was a graduate of the University of Tennessee ÂÂÂ at Martin and did his graduate work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus.
He was an alumnus and a great fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers sports teams. He also loved the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball teams, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Willie began his career as a teacher and loved teaching students at Frank Hughes High School in Clifton, Tenn., where he taught history and social science classes. He was an associate professor at California University of Pennsylvania where he taught political science classes, which included the presidency, constitutional law, the media, and other upper level political science classes.
Willie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Vivian J. Lappa Dawson of Uniontown, Pa.; ÂÂÂ stepson, William Dawson; daughter-in-law, Amanda; a granddaughter, Madison of Smock, Pa.; brother-in-law, Eugene Zsiros; sister-in-law, Toni Lappa of Uniontown, Pa.; nephew, Troy Zsiros of Waynesboro, Pa.; his uncle and aunt, L.G. and Mae Pigg of Clifton, Tenn.; cousins, Maxine Phillips of Cerro Gordo, Ted and Eddie Pigg and families of Clifton, Tenn., and Jaime, Jerry, and Joe Pigg of Pittsburgh, Ill.; best friends, Joseph Heim of Clairton, Pa., and Shannon Morris of Tennessee.; and many loving friends in his hometown of Clifton, Tenn.
Friends were received in the Dearth Funeral Home, New Salem, Pa., on Saturday, July 13, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. the hour of service with Rev. Roland M. O’Brien officiating. Interment was in Salem View Cemetery, New Salem, Pa.
