An investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit has resulted in the arrest of a Collinwood nurse for allegedly taking medications from her client and forging documents, the TBI said Monday.
At the request of the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and with the assistance of the Waynesboro Police Department, in May 2017, TBI agents began investigating complaints that medications were being stolen from a patient who lived in a Wayne County group home.
Agents developed information that in the spring of 2017, April Thrasher, 34, a nurse for the home, allegedly stole the client’s medication and forged documentation, concealing the fact she had taken the medication. Thrasher has since resigned from that position, according to the TBI.
On April 16, the Wayne County Grand Jury returned indictments charging April Nicole Thrasher with one count of abuse/neglect of an adult, one count of theft and one count of forgery, the TBI said.
Monday, TBI agents and deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department arrested Thrasher, and booked her into the Wayne County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
