Viola Dickson, 86, of Sardis, Tennessee, departed this life on Wednesday, March 30. She was born on Oct. 2, 1938 in Roby, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Rapheal Wilkins and Gladys Scott Tucker.
Mrs. Viola was a charter member of Christian Assembly United Pentecostal Church. The first service was held in her living room with Paster W.D. McCollum and his wife Hermie, who have already passed.
Viola went to Roby School for eight years and graduated from Chester County High School on May 23, 1956, an accomplishment she was very proud of. Her first job was working as a machine operator at Myrna Mills, later known as Garan in Adamsville, Tennessee.
On Aug. 26, 1956, at the age of 17, Viola married Howard Wayne Pugh. They were married for 21 years and had three children together; Trena, Donna and Scotty. Wayne’s family treated her as one of their own and she loved them very much.
After 18 months of courtship, Viola married the best fellow, Henry Floyd Dickson, the oldest child of Henry and Raymelle Dickson. He had one brother, Glenn, and six sisters, Dorthy, Sandra, Doris, Kathy, Patti, and Jeanine. She loved his family dearly. Viola described him as the best stepfather ever and he treated her children and grandchildren as his own. When they would have family get-togethers, there would always be a bunch of people and lots of food, fellowship, and noise! Her children and sons-in-law were always trying to get Viola to make her say who was the favorite, but her answer was never changed. She would tell them, “I don’t have favorites, I love you all just the same!”
She is survived by husband, Henry Floyd Dickson; daughters, Trena Kaye Pugh Williams and her husband Danny, and Donna Gaye Pugh Alexander and her husband David; son, Scotty Wayne Pugh and his wife Crystal; grandchildren, Daniel Marcus Williams and his wife Angie, Amy Lynn Williams Johnson and her husband Phillip, Bryan Wayne Alexander and his wife Shelia, Charity Dawn Alexander Scott and her husband Kevin, Megan Elizabeth Pugh, Camden Christopher Pugh and his wife Sarah, Brent Miller, and Zach Miller; and great-grandchildren, Tucker Johnson, Drew Johnson, Carter Scott, Kambree Scott, Kade Scott, Jenavee Williams, Ripken Williams, Zaylin Pugh, Avery Pugh, Iris Pugh, and Gus Pugh.
In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her stepfather, Frank Tucker.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, April 2, at Christian Assembly United Pentecostal Church in Adamsville, Tennessee, with Phillip Johnson and Marcus Williams officiating. Burial followed at Milledgeville Cemetery in Milledgeville, Tennessee.
