Verlene Stanfield

Verlene Rich Stanfield was born on May 9, 1931, to Herman Clyde and Zelma Solomon Rich, who preceded her in death.

She departed this life on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 30 days.

Verlene married Joe Junior Stanfield on July 4, 1954. They were married for 38 years. He preceded his wife in death on Oct. 18, 1992.

Verlene was a retired teacher who taught third grade for 37 years at North Elementary School in Savannah. All the years she taught, she was a member of the Teacher’s Union.

She is survived by a son, Randal Stanfield, and his wife Lynn of Savannah; a sister, Betty Joyce Hendon of Germantown, Tenn.; three nieces, Jennifer Rich Turner, Kim Stanfield and Missy Childress; seven nephews, Herman Myles Stiedle, Bradley Clyde Rich, Barry Hendon, Chuck Shaw, Stanley Shaw, Rickey Stanfield, and B.J. Stanfield; two grandchildren, Shelby Lyndon Stanfield and Levi Andrew Stanfield.

In addition to her parents and husband,she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Clyde Rich and H.C. "Cubby" Rich.

Services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Larry Paul Rich and Philip Meek officiating. Burial followed in the New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery at Savannah.
