Tommy Jack Smith (8-31-18)

On Friday, Aug. 31, Tommy Jack Smith, of Savannah, passed away peacefully at ECM Hospital in Florence, Alabama.

Born Feb. 8, 1940, to Mary Francis Smith in Hardin County. Married Virginia E. Morris on Aug. 12, 1961.

He is survived by his wife Virginia and two daughters, Sandra Butler (husband Chris Butler) and Sharon Smith; two brothers, Larry Joe Smith from Savannah, and Billy Smith and wife Barbara from Arkansas, also many cousins including special cousin Cathy Gray, and nieces and nephews.

Tommy Jack was a real estate agent for 51 years; he also owned Smith Pawn and Gun Shop. Other business interests included insurance, savings and loans, and being the first president of the Hardin County Board of Realtors.

Tommy Jack loved back road traveling to flea markets, historical places, antique stores and out of the way country places. He enjoyed reading about people, places and events in history. He had many good times on his farm, including driving his tractor and tending to the cows. He loved his family and friends dearly.

He was always curious about things in life, loved history/ genealogy and could strike up a conversation and talk to anyone he met anywhere.

Tommy Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Francis Smith; grandparents, Bell (Hunt) and John Smith.

Tommy Jack will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Private graveside services were held.
