Tommy "Bird" Vanhoose Tommy "Bird" Vanhoose, 56, of Savannah, died Wednesday, March 9. He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late Tom and Edna Earl Falls Vanhoose. He was united in marriage to Beth Hulen, who survives. Tommy retired due to illness from Crounce Corporation. He was a towboat captain and had been with the company for 37 years. He was a member of the Turkey Creek Baptist Church and the United Steel Workers Union. Services were held on Saturday, March 12, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Eric Jones officiating. Burial was in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah. In addition to his wife Beth, he is survived by two sons, Greg of Nashville and Wade Vanhoose of Henderson, Tenn.; daughter, Wendy Vanhoose of Savannah, Tennessee; five grandchildren; two sisters, Nettie Jane Logan and Kathy Baugus, both of Savannah; a brother, J.W. Vanhoose of Savannah. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Vera Ruth Vanhoose; and a brother, William Glen Vanhoose.
