Three copters called for crash near West Hardin Elementary

Three crash victims reported as seriously injured were airlifted Wednesday from near the scene of a two-vehicle collision about two miles north of West Hardin Elementary School.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report released today, Billy Barnes, 48, of Savannah, was driving a 2003 Chevy S-10 pickup truck east on Old Union Road. Sara Bubar, 20, of Savannah, operating a 2001 Chevy Blazer sport utility vehicle, pulled into Barnes’ path from the intersection of Holmes Lane and they collided.

Both drivers and a passenger in Bubar’s vehicle, Amber Hansen, 25, of Adamsville, were transported by medical helicopter for treatment.

Two helicopters landed at West Hardin Elementary School and a third near the site of the crash.

Hardin County Assistant Fire Chief Rick Guardino said emergency responders had to use hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the occupants from both vehicles.

He described the need for three helicopters as “kind of unusual” for Hardin County.

All of the vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts. Bubar was cited on a charge of failure to yield the right of way, the THP said.
