Shirley Mitchell Murphy, 83, of Savannah, died on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Savannah.

She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Dan and Essie Bernice Banks Mitchell. She was united in marriage to John Riley “J.R.” Murphy, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Murphy worked for Brown Shoe Manufacturing and was a member of Living Word Fellowship.

She is survived by her three sons, Jim Murphy, Bill Murphy and Ray Murphy, all of Savannah; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lonnie Mitchell of Sardis, Donnie Mitchell of Scotts Hill and James Earl Mitchell of Lexington, Tennessee; and one sister, Judy Paige of Memphis.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Bobbie Jo Love; and three brothers, O.T. Michell, Tom Mitchell and John H. Mitchell.

Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah with Ronnie Sanders and Keith Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
