Because of the possibility of wet weather, the city of Savannah is moving its Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday indoors this year.
While there will be no parade on Main Street to Veterans Memorial Park, the city will still honor veterans with a ceremony inside the historic Savannah Theater at 75 Court St. at 10 a.m.
According to organizers, the ceremony includes a speaker from each military branch who will share details about the branch in which they served. Hardin County Veterans Service Officer Shad Devillier will present the C.D. Rickman Award at the conclusion of the speakers’ remarks.
Prior to the Nov. 9 ceremony at approximately 9:30 a.m., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4606 will hold a brief wreath laying ceremony recogonizing veterans who have died while serving to protect the nation’s freedoms.
Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11, but many communities throughout the U.S. hold special events honoring veterans the weekend prior to the official holiday.
