Robert Earl "Pete" Nolen (2-26-12) service 3-1-12

Robert Earl "Pete" Nolen was born in Counce, on March 13, 1921, the son of the late T.C. and Nellie Jane Counce Nolen.

Mr. Nolen was owner of T.C. Nolen and Son Grocery Store. He was a member of Counce First Baptist Church. Mr. Nolen taught school a few years in Counce after his High School graduation. He loved history and talking to his customers. Mr. Nolen served Elvis Presley and his entourage sandwiches many times and also Buford Pusser and his deputies soft drinks and snacks.

Mr. Nolen departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 26, in Jackson, Tenn., at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 13 days.

Mr. Nolen is survived by two nieces, Sarah Schiff and husband Berny of Austin, Texas and Martha Whidick of Jonesboro, Tenn.; two great-nephews, Kevin Whidick and Kyle Whidick; two great-great-nieces, Carrie Whidick and Josie Whidick; one great-great-nephew, Noah Whidick.

Mr. Nolen is also survived by his special caretaker, Jane Todd.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Blanche Carter.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 1, at the White Sulphur Cemetery in Pickwick Dam, with Paul Childers officiating.
