Pickwick, Shiloh parks hosting ‘Owl Prowl on the battlefield Friday night

Posted

Who is going to the “Owl Prowl” at Shiloh National Military Park?
The federal park, in partnership with Pickwick Landing State Park, is presenting the owl-focused program for the public on the battlefield on Friday, Oct. 18, from 6-8 p.m.
Owls from the Pickwick Park aviary will be on site for visitors to view up close and to learn about their unique characteristics. Rangers will present a talk on adaptations owls have made that allow them to be capable hunters and how they use their senses to survive and thrive in the dark.
Following the program, rangers will lead a walk to hear and perhaps catch a glimpse of one of the many owls that call the battlefield home.
Shiloh Park asks that anyone interested in participating in the 2-1/2 hour presentation register by calling 731-698-5696. Participants should meet rangers at the visitor center beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Hikers should bring a flashlight since the program starts at dusk and continues after dark. Flashlights should have a red mode setting, or the light should be covered with red cellophane to preserve night vision. Rangers will have red cellophane on hand for those who might need it.
Rain or severe weather will cancel the program.
